As part of our ongoing garden and wellbeing project in the John Wall Wellness Garden, students recently took part in an inspiring creative workshop to design a mural for the space. The session was led by visiting graffiti artist Tom Edwards, who shared his expertise and guided students through the creative process.

During the workshop, students explored wildlife themes to reflect the natural surroundings of the garden. Using images, shapes, and collage techniques, they developed ideas inspired by animals, plants, and outdoor scenes. The group worked collaboratively to select elements that represented calmness, growth, and positive change, while experimenting with colour, pattern, and composition.

Together, they produced a collection of designs that will be combined into one final mural. This creative process allowed students to express themselves meaningfully, while also building confidence, communication, and teamwork skills in a supportive environment.

Tom Edwards will now use the students’ ideas as inspiration to paint the final mural, helping to transform the garden into a vibrant and welcoming space for the community. This has been a valuable experience for everyone involved. Seeing their ideas brought to life in a public setting will give students a strong sense of pride and achievement, and strengthen their connection to both the project and their local community.
