Supporting Our Students With Their Career Aspirations

At Sporting Stars Academy, we ensure that our students are supported through our bespoke careers programme, which provides opportunities to take part in both volunteering and research activities. These experiences help them develop a deeper understanding of the world of work.

As part of this programme, one Year 11 student had the opportunity to interview Jemma Wentworth of Wentworth Family Law. Jemma provided a detailed explanation of what a career in law entails, including potential routes into the profession and the qualifications needed to build a successful career. We were also able to link this experience to the student’s college application for the next academic year, as well as to future choices she will need to make.

Jemma took the time to talk through both private practice and legal aid work, explaining the different challenges each route presents. There was also a discussion about court proceedings and how a hearing is conducted. In addition, they explored Jemma’s work with other professionals within family law. Our student found this extremely interesting and gained valuable insight into the role of a lawyer in court cases.

An engaging discussion also took place about the balance between a career in law and personal life. Jemma explained why she chose family law over criminal law and shared her reasons for working in private practice.

The student was well prepared and asked a range of thoughtful questions, ensuring she gained a clear understanding of client expectations and potential challenges within the profession.

We are very grateful to Jemma for giving her time to support and inspire the next generation of lawyers.
