Last week, Sporting Stars Academy played their first ever football match against Alpha Academy at Power League Stoke.
It was a great experience for the pupils and a really enjoyable game to watch. The final score was 8–6 to Alpha Academy, but Sporting Stars Academy can take a lot of positives from the match.
The game started at a fast pace, with both teams trying to get forward and create chances. Alpha Academy were strong in attack and managed to take the lead, but our players kept going and worked hard to stay in the game. There was some good passing, a few strong tackles, and some really well-taken goals from both sides.
Aston showed great determination throughout the match and worked hard both on and off the ball. Ahsan brought lots of energy to the team and kept trying to move the ball forward whenever he had the chance. Leighton had some strong moments driving forward and looking to create chances, while Shaun battled well and helped the team stay organised.
In goal, Sam made some important saves and showed real bravery as goalkeeper. One of the best moments came near the end when Sam came out of goal and managed to score. It got a great reaction from everyone and was a brilliant way to finish the match.
Jack S and Jack J both contributed well with some good passing, movement and effort to help the team build attacks. Riley showed great confidence and kept working hard right until the final whistle, while Bailey had some exciting moments, getting involved and helping push the team forward.
As the match went on, Sporting Stars Academy grew in confidence. Even when Alpha Academy pulled ahead, the team never gave up. They kept encouraging each other, tracking back, and trying to play football in the right way.
Although the result did not go our way, the pupils should be proud of their effort and attitude. To score six goals in their first-ever match is a fantastic achievement, and there were plenty of positives to build on.
