To support Macmillan’s Coffee morning fundraising event a select group of year 10 and 11 visited Port Vale FC to visit the award-winning community programme Golden Valiants ran by the charity arm of Port Vale FC, Port Vale Foundation.
Armed with an array of homemade cakes made by staff at school, the students attended Port Vale Foundation’s Golden Valiants community coffee morning, held at Vale Park. The students spoke to the elderly visitors, selling them cake and making tea/coffee. They chatted to the visitors and played a few rounds of bingo.
One Golden Valiant commented that it was “lovely to see young people getting involved, not just raising money but also spending time with us, and doing it through a great cause”. The students gained valuable lessons outside the classroom; teamwork, communication and the importance of giving back to the community.
Both old and young enjoyed the fundraising session! Even better over £70 was raised for Macmillan’s work supporting people with cancer in the UK.
