Year 10 Students Volunteering at Baddeley Green Hedgehog Sanctuary

Latest News

Two Year 10 students have begun a work placement volunteering at a local hedgehog sanctuary.

The students are helping the volunteers at the charity look after the hedgehogs by cleaning, weighing and feeding them.  They learnt about the record-keeping process needed to ensure that the hedgehogs remain healthy.  They further learnt about cleaning the cages and the equipment needed to care for the hedgehogs.  The students were able to hold the hedgehogs and clean their faces.

The sanctuary rescues hedgehogs of all ages, many of whom are brought to the sanctuary by members of the public who have rescued them.  Unfortunately, as we head into the summer months, many hedgehogs have been injured due to people using strimmers and not being aware that the hedgehogs are hiding in the long grass.

The students have learnt to work as a team and develop their social skills working with other adults who also volunteer at the sanctuary.

This experience will support the students as they head into Year 11 and begin to prepare for their college applications.
