Personal Development
Information for Students
Our Personal Development curriculum, named the STAR curriculum, is taught through designated Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic Education (PSHCE) lessons. Students study the Pearson BTEC in Personal Growth and Wellbeing in recognition of this subject’s importance for our students.
This is supplemented by an established Form Time curriculum and calendared events delivered on days of particular significance such as careers’ week, mental health week and remembrance. Students follow a timetable in Form Time for the STAR curriculum, including literacy, debate, numeracy and current affairs.
At Sporting Stars Academy, our aim is to develop students’ knowledge, skills and attributes to help them stay healthy, safe and prepare them for life and work in modern Britain. We support students’ spiritual, moral, cultural, emotional and physical development; provide them with a knowledge of their world, locally, nationally and globally and give them confidence to tackle many of the moral, social and cultural issues that they may face as a member of a diverse society.
Our STAR curriculum ensures that the following British Values of democracy; the rule of law; individual liberty; tolerance and mutual respect are addressed. Topic coverage includes health and education; relationships and sexual education; citizenship; personal safety; personal development; crime and extremism; identity and drug and alcohol education.
Sessions are delivered with consideration and compassion to the individual needs and experiences of our students.
