Basic First Aid Course

Latest News

Students this week have had the exciting opportunity to complete a first aid course.

All students in Y11 completed the course, which is a valuable qualification to add to their CVs as they complete their college applications and have their college interviews.

All students in Nurture also completed the course, which forms part of their Pathfinders programme, which prepares the students for adulthood.

In the first part of the session the students completed the theory aspects of the course.  The course provider explained to the students what to do in situations where first aid was required, both in the home and when out in public.  This included talking about common dangers in the home, such as trip hazards.  The second part of the course saw the students completing the practical aspects of their training.  Students were required to put someone in the recovery position, before moving onto the first aid dummies.  The students had to practice mouth-to-mouth and chest compressions.  They completed it to the tune of Baby Shark because it was the only song everyone knew the words to!  Finally the students completed a written test to show that the knowledge was embedded.

“I have really enjoyed today, and I am pleased that this will help me when I go for my college interview as I want to study Health and Social care.”  Carinna 11A Student
