Continuing from last year, year 11 are working with the National Trust to help maintain the woods at the National Trust site in Alderley Edge. The students worked hard building a path to support those with impaired mobility to access the site. This ensures that everyone can enjoy the beauty of the forest. They did this by digging out and flattening the existing path, laying wooden trim to clearly define the path from the rest of the woodland and then finally, adding wooden chips to protect the ground underneath.
After they worked on the path, the students helped moved logs around the site and learnt how to use equipment such as saws. The National Trust are working towards making each property self-sufficient, so wood from the forest is used to maintain edges to paths and fences. By learning to use saws, the students developed their teamwork skills. They had to work together, explaining to each other what they were doing to ensure that everyone remained safe.
The students were also able to talk to the team at the site and ask them about careers for the National Trust and in the forestry trade.
