Year 10 students experienced a fantastic opportunity this week to volunteer at the National Trust site in Alderley Edge.
This medieval woodland is protected and maintained by the Trust and a team of adult volunteers. Our students were given the opportunity to learn about important conservation work on the site and how the site needs to be maintained to ensure that it is safe and suitable for both the more and less able walkers of any age.
The students were taught about maintaining paths and helped the volunteers with their work. It was hard, physical work where the students showed a lot of resilience. The students have started a project where they will be building a flight of stairs to allow the less able visitors to the site to successfully navigate the grounds.
The skills which the students will develop during this project are: leadership, resilience, teamwork, construction, and project management. We are very lucky to be given this opportunity, which will be invaluable in preparing the students for the world of work.
