Year 10 Fire Station Work Experience Morning

Year 10 students were lucky enough to take part in a simulated job interview morning with the Staffordshire Fire Brigade. 

The students attended Newcastle Fire Station for the morning and experienced a series of carousel activities, imagining that they had applied to the fire service as a future career. 

Each workshop was 25 minutes, the students were taught by members of the fire brigade and supported by staff from school. 

  • Role of the firefighter and uniform competition.  The students learnt the importance of being able to put on their firefighting equipment quickly in order to be ready to safely complete the job. 
  • Roles in the fire service, from frontline firefighting to technical support. 
  • A station tour, with a chance to look at the facilities which the fire service use. 
  • Fitness workshop.  This showed the students the importance of being physically fit, not only due to the weight of the uniform but the nature of the job to. 

The students were able to discuss future careers with the fire service and the application requirements.
